It's spring here in Indiana and there are lots of things to do.  Make learning something new one of them.  The group that volunteers to work on our projects are largely driven by that and it seems to serve them well.  Some are students looking to build a career. Some are parents looking to build a better world for their children. Some are going through personal reconstruction and looking to build a better live for themselves.  A million people would have a million reason.  I hope to give you a million and one.  Each other.  Peace

TYT #3 - Thank You To Talbott Street

Here in Indianapolis, we have some little pockets of cool.  One such pocket is known as Talbott Street.   A nightclub of some repute and if wall could talk, Vivian and Michael the brother/sister act that rule the roost would have floor manager Guido take them out in back to be deal with.  The place is a rocknroll house party one night and a drag queen show the next and its one of the really interesting places in our city.  They have been kind enough to house our first benefit concert and allow us to show our movie and for that we are blessed and i truly want to thank them.  And you should too. Peace.

Go Find Some Energy

April 10, 2009 by Cary Woods   Comments (0)

Seems like our band of gypsies has something in common with most everyone you know: not enough time and not enough energy.  We all have work, or the job of finding work, school, or the job of learning and family, the most important job of all.  So it never ceases to amaze me that the people that seem busiest also seem to have the most energy and get the most done.  We have our weekly staff meeting at Brothers in the village (I don't think that is a secret) and some days people are dragging themselves in.  Noah was getting over a bout wtih a nasty bug and everyone is ready for the show to start, but the during and after our gathering of the tribe, we all seem to be a little better, a little more energized for what we do.  If you are in the village and see us, stop by if you need a jolt.

TYT #2 - Thank You To Mary Ritke

In many ways, Sounds For Science was born at University of Indianapolis.  As many of you know, I used to teach bioinformatics there.  Much of what I do today was started there and no one was more important in those developmental processes than Dr. Mary Ritke, professor of biology.  So while Mary would never want to be called the mother of our band of gypsies, she is most certainly an aunt.  More important than the impact she had on me personally, she has and continues to mentor more bright young women toward science careers than anyone I know and for that she has my thanks and hopefully yours.

A single blade of grass...

So my thought was as little as the world needs another blog, my hope was to create a small but positive space for thanks. Things we appreciate. Taking time a moment now and then to do so. And so I start this journey with you asking with the primary question and at least one of the answers. How does a single blade of grass say thank you to the sun? By growing....

Another day has passed.  Are you where you want to be, doing what you want to be doing.  There are people, some of them here that will help you.  Some maybe science majors, some may be roller girls, some may be both.
